Hi All,
Pride is next weekend and I want to ask you all, what does Pride mean to you??? Really, is it just a party?
I recently found out that we, as part of the LGBT family around the world, don’t have rights. In fact, nowhere in the United Nations Human Rights Commission are the basic rights and protections of the LGBT peoples listed anywhere. Being Gay or Lesbian is risking jail time in 86 countries and death penalty in 7. There are still injustices in the world. I have learnt that we have a long way to go.
Our generation is poised to stand on the forefront of this fight! It is our time to stand up and make a difference. Pride is a fight for our human rights, for our dignity, for our acknowledgment and acceptance as people. Pride is about liberation for those around the world that are still struggling for the right to assemble.
The ticket price you pay for being a part of any community is your participation. I’m asking for your ticket stubs now, for your involvement, to stand up for Pride and the global LGBT community. This is our time, our moment and our history. It’s time to live your Pride.
