ABA Support Network - Autism Support

The Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) Support Network is a non-profit society that is based in Surrey, BC. Our mission is to improve access to quality Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) treatment and support in the home and in the community for children, youth and adults who need it.

ABA is considered by many experts to be the most effective evidence-based therapeutic approach developed to date for children with autism. The structured teaching of functional skills (often called behavioural intervention) presently has the largest body of published research supporting its effectiveness. These methods emphasize the building of:

  • Attention to social stimuli
  • Imitation skills
  • Language use and comprehension
  • Appropriate play
  • Social interaction skills

Presently, accessibility to ABA treatment and support in schools, preschools, day camps, overnight camps, respite and in homes can be limited due to lack of finances, lack of available consultants, lack of therapists, lack of awareness of benefits of ABA for individuals with autism, and a lack of structure that supports ABA based services in the community.

The ABA Support Network works in a collaborative manner with its members and with existing government administrators, school personnel, Community Living boards, and any other people who may be able to help improve services and inclusion of ABA based programs in the community.

We feel a large component of this is education and promotion of ABA careers.  There is a great need for improved capacity of ABA treatment for individuals with autism in the province of BC, and good options and potential for people interested in ABA careers.

Families and friends affected by autism require a great deal of support.  The ABA Support Network has open meetings each month in Surrey which provide a forum for educational seminars as well as networking and support for families.

Your finanicial contribution will go directly towards our current initiatives:

* Promoting ABA Careers - online and local advertising strategies
* Monthly Meetings - education seminars and networking events
* Video and information package for parents of new autism diagnosis

Please help us help other families!  Thank you for your support.
