Out of six women, one is experiencing, or has lived through domestic violence during their lifetime. It is in fact, the leading cause of injury for women between the ages of 15-44 in Canada. Not motor vehicle accidents, falls, or cuts, but a loved one violently attacking, causing un-measurable amounts of physical, emotional and psychological trauma. Each year the Ontario Government spends an estimated staggering 3-5 billion on medical and legal expenses related to domestic abuse yet there are still numerous barriers preventing women from leaving these situations including lack of economic resources, cultural imperative for two parent families, religious beliefs, increased vulnerability, and overburdened court systems.
Women Thou Art Strong (WTAS) was created in 2008 to guide, encourage, and empower victims of domestic abuse and their children to overcome these barriers. WTAS helps women and children achieve safety, become liberated from abuse trauma, hold their abusers accountable, and evolve from victim to survivor by easing the transition process of leaving the shelter and integrating back into the community.
Women Though Art Strong (WTAS) urges you to please consider a gift in support of assisting women and children who have left harmful, abusing living conditions through the overwhelming transition process.
