Pledges Received: $0.00 CAD

Itipini in Xhosa translates to “dump”, as in rubbish dump. This is a community of people, located in Mthatha, who live on a dump in their makeshift shacks. There has been a lot of work done with the community through the African Medical Mission. The community consists of approximately 3,500+ residents. Although the South Africa regional, municipal and National government bodies have tried to create a solution for the residents there has not been a successful solution to date. Most of the initiatives included moving the community further out of town and splitting the community up. What the residents would really like is to be able to re-build their community on the land they already occupy.

We want to support the needs and desires of the community to help them establish a community they can grow within that supports the residents, families and community to support themselves in a sustainable manner and in an environment that meets their needs now and in the future. The plan is to develop skills and begin infrastructure development in tandem and along with the community members to create sustainable skills development and employment within the community.
