The VCP is a non-profit society. It is run by adults with CP, for adults with CP. We help people with CP live as independently as they can in their community.

We use donations from the general public to support our programs and special projects.

For example, the VCP has written several books that specifically address issues that concern people with CP and other disabilities; issues that are very important to the health and well-being of our members but are not covered by general publishing houses. These include, how to create a trust for people receiving disability benefits, and how to apply for the Choices in Support for Independent Living (CSIL). Both books are available electronically, for free, on our website: www.vcpgv.org

We are also a self-advocacy group. We encourage people with CP to live independent lives by giving peer support, information, volunteer and training opportunities in office equipment and procedures, computer and internet training, and experience working on the Board of Directors.

We believe in supporting each other and challenging ourselves and our members to reach our full potential. Our management, fundraising chair, and website guru are all people with CP, as are the members of our Board. While our focus is on adults, we also field calls and answer enquiries from parents of children with CP, and anyone else that needs help. We assist where we can, and when we can’t, we do our best to refer callers to appropriate groups.

We would like to invite the general public to donate money in order that we can continue supporting our members through our activities. Our 2007/08 campaign goal is $10,000.
