The Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday announced that they will honor the memory of Luc Bourdon prior to the team's home opener on October 9.
The former Canucks defenseman was killed in a motorcycle accident in Lameque, New Brunswick on May 29. He was 21.
"Luc was an important part of our Canucks family. We want to make sure that everyone who Luc touched has the opportunity to celebrate his life and memory," Vancouver president Chris Zimmerman said.
"Luc was a special person in so many ways. He brought great spirit and determination to all that that he did on-ice or off. His passion for our game was always present whenever he was with fans, team personnel or helping in the community. Luc will be forever a Canuck."
A promising defenseman, Bourdon scored two goals in 27 games with the Canucks last season. The Shippagan, New Brunswick native spent a majority of the season with the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League, notching six tallies and eight assists in 41 contests.
Selected 10th overall in the 2005 draft, Bourdon made his NHL debut in 2006-07, registering four penalty minutes in nine gameswith the Canucks.
Bourdon was an integral part of Canada's gold-medal winning team at the 2006 World Junior Hockey Championship. The 6-2, 211-pounder also helped Canada win gold at the 2007 tournament in Sweden.
