QMUNITY Generations reflects an exciting and innovative approach to age specific service delivery, education, and community development. Some of the community activities offered for older adults include:
Thinking Queerly - a queer salon in which queers talk about the influences - books, ideas, movies, songs, and much more - that have shaped our understanding of what being “queer” means in our world, at our time.
Queer Documentaries and Discussion - an evening in which older queers watch and talk about documentaries that have a queer theme, ranging from Gertrude Stein to queer cowboys in Alberta with lots of things in between!
Twisted Cooks - a community kitchen in which older queers plan, purchase, cook, eat, and clean up a wonderful meal (with something to take home as well!) in a life-affirming and fun evening.
Over the Rainbow Social Club – twice a month older queers get together to play Euchre and Crib with light refreshments and a lot of laughing.
Fruity Flick Fridays – on the first Friday of each month older queers are invited to watch a movie which always includes elements of queerness in a queer celebratory environment.
Fine Arts Appreciation League - Vancouver has many opportunities for opera, Bard on the Beach, plays, concerts, recitals and other arts events: join with older queers for some of these events, often at significantly ticket costs.
When older queers identify areas in which we want more information and/or training, QMUNITY Generations organises workshops. Topics in the past have included:
Representation Agreements
Benefits of Laughter
Memory and Aging
Smoking cessation support
Queer grieving
Spirituality for older queers
We value and solicit YOUR input about areas that would benefit our communities, so please let us know if you know of an educational workshop, a speaker, a topic, or other information that will help Generations meet the needs of older queers. Call 604-684-8449 or email
generations@qmunity.ca with your ideas!
