Hello, all...

I will be going to the beautiful country of Belize in the spring of 2009 (March 6-14) with a group of fellow Appalachian students.

We will be working hard on a research farm (known as the Maya Mountain Research Farm, which houses mostly peace corp members, college students, and local farmers) only miles away from a village known as San Pedro Columbia. This work includes: learning about sustainable living (so that locals—and even people here in the States…know how to provide for themselves via gardening and farming—which ultimately lowers the chances of families going hungry and lacking resources), teaching the locals about these techniques, and learning more about agroforestry.

We, the ASB-ers, are intent on learning as much as we can, from locals, researchers, and fellow visitors. We also want to help out families, just like ours, by implementing what we have learned into their lives.

Through sustainable living, poverty is lessened, families are provided for, and job security is more prevalent. I believe strongly in the cause of the Maya Mountain Research Farm and would love for you to share my passion. This not only affects locals in Central America, but with this knowledge, it can positively affect the locals here in America.
