Burnaby Custody Passion Project Fundraising

Since the end of September 2010 the Passion Foundation has been volunteering with a group of girls in the Burnaby Youth Custody Center.

They have been working on self discovery and literacy enhancement. Now it's project time.

The group of young women have come up with their project.

Together, inspite of their challenges and barriers they have brainstormed an idea that will raise awareness on two issues that they believe are important forgiveness and acceptance. The girls believe this project will have an impact on their well being and for the well being of the community at large.

Their chosen topics:

Forgiveness and Acceptance

"We all make mistakes in life, she explained, and some of these mistakes have some pretty serious consequences. She carries so much guilt with her about her (past) actions, she added. She wished that she could be absolved of the pain she caused to her own body, her spirit, and to the people that her crimes affected.

"We need to accept our bodies, accept we are all different and we dont need to fit in some form..."

The two cell unit groups will create the images of a group of women illustrating their photography, art work, and writing.

We need the community to help raise funds for art supplies and printing. We estimate about $250 are needed.

Their goal to give this gift into the community by December 25, 2010. Once created they will invite other girls and women in the community to contribute images to help build the figures to celebrate commmunity.

Our goal is to assist these girls to take their new self awareness, creativity, and leadership skill and put them into action. We want to show the girls there are no limits on positive contributions into the world.
